What is Tuning Labs?

Tuning Labs is the result of 4 years of working with government agencies to build a nationally recognizable 3rd party program that will provide cost effective reasonable basis emissions testing in order for shops and tuners to be compliant with Federal Emissions Laws & EPA Tampering Policy Memo.

We have worked to ask the hard questions and get answers needed to successfully apply Reasonable Basis in a shop or tuning environment.
Some of these questions include: 
 
  • What equipment would be acceptable and what is not?  
  • What tests should be performed and how can we ensure they are done every time correctly? 
  • What level of education do the operators need and need to maintain?    
  • What can be done with vehicle modifications and what should be avoided?  
  • Where should the shop/tuner store their data and how should it be stored, in order to be acceptable?  
  • How could the shop/tuner verify their equipment was maintained well, and is still accurate after some time (equipment calibration)?   
 
All of this (and much more) has been determined and standardized with Tuning Labs.  You simply apply to our program (we use a quarterly enrollment system to provide lead time needed for test equipment builds), and after acceptance you are trained and equipped.  Tuning Labs then stores your emissions test data (before and after testing for each vehicle you work on), provides PASS/FAIL confirmation and a foil sticker for the vehicle with a QR Code that is generated after successful final testing so any agency (with your permission) can confirm the vehicle is within the standards set by reasonable basis, simply by scanning the sticker and seeing the before and after emissions test data.

Tuning Labs is an affordable option for the everyday shop looking to actively remain compliant.  When you are looking for the right five gas analyzers, many options available are starting at upwards of $250,000, or more.  Factor in the inability to self certify, and you are left with machinery that will not fit your needs.

Tuning Labs has access to five gas analyzers that meet the stringent requirements set by government agencies to work with the reasonable basis definitions.  Tuning Labs will be your certifying body, as we will store your vehicle data and act as the point of contact for any situations requiring your information.  Tuning Labs also offers an insurance plan for all enrolled users.

The cost of equipment and all services work out to a fraction of the cost of lab grade equipment and gives the shop peace of mind knowing they are protected.  Financing is also available.
